The Springs to the Pinnacle
Getting There
Drive your car to The Springs in Wellington Park.
Expansive views on a clear day are the reward for this climb to the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington. The upper section of this walk is very exposed – choose good weather and bring warm, waterproof clothing.
The track from The Springs ascends steadily through mountain forest with views of the Organ Pipes, across the city and beyond. After turning onto the aptly named Zig Zag Track the climb becomes steeper. Views of the summit tower draw you onward, whilst the views below you provide a good excuse to stop and catch your breath!
On the plateau the track levels out and the summit shelter provides a great spot to escape the wind and enjoy panoramic views.
Check out this short video about the recently completed Zig Zag Restoration Project here.
